To Be Calm And To Care
The human paradox of needing to be simultaneously calm and caring, using Moses's dual response of distress at Jewish suffering and calm trust in G-d's plan. G-d's rebuke to Moses at the beginning of Va'era is interpreted as a teaching about the two qualities of equanimity and passionate concern that must coexist.
