Judges

This discourse was delivered by the Rebbe on Shabbat Parshat Shofetim, 5716 (1956). The Sedra commands judges and officers at all gates, and the verse 'her husband is known at the gates' from Woman of Valour is cited. The discourse explores two Zoharic explanations: how G-d, who is infinite, can be 'known', and how the word for gate (sha'ar) relates to the word for estimating (shaarah), suggesting that the Divine can be grasped only through estimation and spiritual effort.
