Mitzva Beyond Reason

Tzav | Leviticus | 5733

This discourse was delivered by the Rebbe on Shabbat Parshat Tzav, Parshat Parah, 5733 (1973). The Shabbat before Pesach includes a reading about the Red Heifer, a statute beyond rational understanding, and the discourse asks why it is called 'the statute of the Torah' rather than 'the statute of the Red Heifer'. The explanation is that irrational observance of Mitzvot beyond reason represents the deepest essence of the entire Torah, the service of total submission to G-d's Will.
