Pada Be Shalom (5727)

Vayeitze | Genesis, Bereishit

This discourse was delivered by the Rebbe on Shabbat Parshat Vayetze, 5727 (1967), in connection with 19 Kislev, the Chassidic holiday celebrating the liberation of Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liadi. Opening with the verse 'He redeemed my soul in peace from the battle against me, for with many did they strive with me', the discourse explores the paradox of being redeemed 'in peace' from a 'battle', and connects this to the service of Torah study, acts of kindness and communal prayer as the forces that bring divine peace.
