Re-Capturing The Captive

Ki Tetze | Deuteronomy, Devorim | 5745

This discourse was delivered by the Rebbe on Shabbat Sedra Ki Tetze, 5745 (1985). The verse 'when you go to war over your enemy, G-d will give him into your hand, and you will capture his captive' is interpreted as the personal spiritual battle of every Jew. The discourse reveals that the captive who must be re-captured is one's own spiritual quality that has fallen into exile through sin, and that the work of Teshuvah involves reclaiming these captive inner powers and returning them to holiness.
