This discourse was delivered by the Rebbe on Shavuot, 5725 (1965). The Talmud tells us that when Moses ascended Mount Sinai, the angels objected that the Torah should remain in heaven. Moses answered them by asking what relevance Torah has for beings who have no evil inclination, no business dealings and no parents. The discourse explores why Torah belongs specifically to human beings, and how overcoming the animal soul is a uniquely human form of divine service.
