This discourse was delivered by the Rebbe on Shabbat Parshat Yitro, 5744 (1984). The Giving of the Torah at Sinai was marked by dramatic signs: thunder, lightning and an intermingling of the senses. Chassidic teachings explain that the Essence of the Divine was revealed at Sinai, beyond all description and definition. This event deconstructed the polarity between the spiritual and the physical, establishing that their union and revelation is the very goal of Judaism.
