The Sleep Of Exile
5774 (≈ 2013-2014)

Exile to sleep, in which the mind no longer fully controls the body. The insight is that the Ninth of Av fast is an opportunity to awaken from the sleep of exile and reconnect with our deeper divine purpose, understanding what redemption truly means.

Stages In Giving The Torah
5773 (≈ 2012-2013)

How the Book of Devarim differs from the other four books of the Torah, with Moses speaking in his own voice yet divinely inspired. The insight is that this represents a higher level of divine communication, showing that even human speech can express divine wisdom when aligned with G-d.

The Optimistic View
5772 (≈ 2011-2012)

The famous Talmudic story of Rabbi Akiva laughing when the other sages wept at seeing a fox emerge from the ruins of the Holy of Holies. The insight is that Rabbi Akiva's optimism was based on the certainty that just as the prophecies of destruction came true, so will the prophecies of redemption.

The True Translation
5771 (≈ 2010-2011)

The theme of translation, noting that Moses translated the Torah into seventy languages for the nations. The insight is that the Torah's ability to be truly communicated across languages and cultures is a mark of its universal divine wisdom, and today's teachers of Torah follow in Moses' footsteps.

A Way Of Becoming
5769 (≈ 2008-2009)

Whether the Torah teaches a way of being or a way of becoming, exploring the transition the Jewish people faced as they prepared to enter the Land of Israel. The insight is that leaving the miraculous desert existence for ordinary life in Israel represents not a spiritual descent but the fulfillment of Judaism's deepest purpose.
